Violinist, Teacher

Joseph Kromholz grew up in New York and Virginia and began playing violin at age five. He attended college at the Cleveland Institute of Music and studied economics at Case Western Reserve University, followed by doctoral studies at New England Conservatory.

 

Dr. Kromholz taught violin at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and served as head of strings at Youngstown State University, where he taught violin, viola, chamber music, string pedagogy, and conducted the chamber orchestra. He has also taught music theory and wide assortment of other courses over the past 15 years. During summers, he teaches at the internationally-renowned Encore Chamber Music Institute.

 

An active chamber musician, Dr. Kromholz is a founding member of the Vesuvius (later Linden) String Quartet and the Dana Piano Trio. He has served as concertmaster of several orchestras, including the Warren Philharmonic, CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra, and Opera Western Reserve,

 

Joseph Kromholz’s mentors include Paul Kantor, Miriam Fried, and Itzhak Perlman, and members of the Cavani, Cleveland, and Juilliard Quartets.
